Aswan 2025 is a watercolor meditation on movement, light, and memory along the Nile. Rendered with loose linework and layered washes of ochre, rust, gold, and soft gray, this abstracted felucca rises from the riverbank like a memory half-formed—both vessel and symbol.
The sail leans into the unseen wind, suggesting passage rather than destination, while the textured base anchors the piece in place and time. Inspired by time spent in Upper Egypt, this work reflects the quiet dignity of the felucca as it has existed for centuries—unchanged, patient, and essential.
Sketched on Elephantine Island, Aswan in October of 2025, this piece is both a literal portrait and an emotional one: the feeling of watching boats drift past Aswan as the light shifts and the Nile carries everything forward.
